Lex's Run was created in 2008 as a way to help raise funds for the Muscular
Dystrophy Association. I was first diagnosed with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy Type 2 in 2004, after I began feeling symptoms
in my early 20's. Because I am living with MMD2, my involvement with this cause is two-fold: First, I would like to do all
I can to help the MDA raise funds to provide support to families like mine for services such as support groups, clinic visits
and durable medical equipment. The MDA is the leader in funding research for treatments and cures of diseases like mine. It
is my hope that they can find a cure before I discover that my daughter has inherited the disease. Secondly, by training and
running I hope to slow the disease process in myself.
Everyone is invited to come out and participate in the 2010 Lex’s Run 5K
for the MDA. This event is open to anyone and everyone of all ages and fitness levels, there will be a ¼ mile "fun"
run for the kids beforehand. Although, the event is a race, we encourage participation by everyone and walker's are welcomed!
This year we are debuting our USATF Certified Course! It's a moderately challenging course with a good mix of flats and hills,
roads and trails. We are also rolling-out our on-line registration through active.com to make things easier for all of our
runners and walkers. And as this is a charity event, in order to increase fundraising this year... Our top
fundraiser will receive a nice prize package! And we're making it easy by providing everyone with their own individual fundraising
web-page that will assist our runner's and walker's in leveraging social media and their network of friends and family to
meet fundraising goals!
There will be Goodie Bags for everyone and FREE Technical Fabric Race T-Shirts
for all pre-registered runners ($10/ea. for everyone else, while supplies last), awards for top finishers and age-group winners,
door prizes, raffles, and a big backyard-style barbecue and awards ceremony afterward!
